Uploading Word (.doc) files in Joomla
Issue Description
When trying to upload Word (.doc) files to the images directory of your Joomla site, you receive an error message stating "filetype not supported" and the file doesn't get uploaded successfully. The following steps may help to solve the problem and allow new filetype uploads.
Global Configuration:
- Log in to the Joomla Administrator Panel.
- Go to "System" > "Global Configuration."
- Click on the "Media" tab.
- In the "Legal Extensions (File Types)" field, add
doc
to the list of allowed file extensions (separated by commas). For example:jpg, jpeg, png, gif, doc
. - Save the changes.
Media Manager Configuration:
- Log in to the Joomla Administrator Panel.
- Navigate to "Content" > "Media."
- In the Media Manager, click on the "Options" button (usually in the top-right corner or as a toolbar option).
- In the Options window, go to the "Allowed File Types" field.
- Add
doc
to the list of allowed file extensions (separated by commas). For example:jpg, jpeg, png, gif, doc
. - Save the changes.
By adding .doc
to both the Global Configuration and the Media Manager's allowed file types, you should be able to upload .doc
files through the Media Manager without encountering any issues.
Additional Notes
- Make sure you have the necessary permissions to upload files to the images directory.
- Ensure that the Joomla installation uses the default media manager for handling file uploads. Custom media managers or third-party extensions may have their own settings and restrictions.
- If the issue persists after following the steps above, consider converting the .doc files to a supported format such as .pdf or .txt before uploading them to your Joomla site.
